How to Avoid Holiday Burnout and Stress

Okay, so it’s Christmas Eve and you have decked the halls, jingled the bells and are almost ready for the big day, great! However, if a nagging feeling of dread has taken over you and you are feeling overwhelmed with anxiety, it is time to breathe and relax. At this point in the game you are almost done, but for the odd gift, food prep and wrapping. If you are feeling stressed, maybe this is the year to re-think Christmas and focus on being together instead of cooking the best meal or wrapping the prettiest package. Here are some ideas to help stave off holiday burnout and additional stress.

SIMPLIFY THE CHRISTMAS MEAL

Consider ordering your Christmas meal from a local store such as Vons, Pavillions, Safeway or Kroger who offer fully prepared meals for pick up, just heat and serve.

Vons: http://www.vons.com/IFL/Grocery/Holiday-Dinners

Or grab a Honeybaked Ham and add a few fixin’s like mashed potatoes and salad.

http://www.honeybaked.com/default.asp

You may want to try making a big Christmas brunch with bagels, cream cheese, omelets, pastries and fruit and have soup, salad and fine breads for dinner instead of a big meal.

Here are some samples of great simple holiday meals:

APPLE, CHEDDAR, SQUASH SOUP

EASY CHRISTMAS BRUNCH RECIPES

So now that you have your meal simplified and planned, its time to think about Christmas family activities that will help you from feeling like you need to play hostess all day.

CHRISTMAS PRESENT EXTRAVAGANZA

It’s almost a given that some sort of Christmas morning mayhem will ensue, especially if you have kids so start off with the right strategy for a stress free morning.

MAP OUT THE GIFTS

If you don’t already do this, definitely map out a large comfy space for each person and then place a garbage bag for trash and a box for gifts at each station.

When all of the gifts have been opened simply throw away the bags and let each person take their box. You may want to let your kids do a little treasure inspecting while you prepare the breakfast/brunch.

Later in the afternoon you may want to engage in a family activity, that is low stress and fun.

WORK ON A PUZZLE

Get the whole family together to work on a puzzle here are some fun ones…

Ravensburger 80337 Two Angels 1000 pc

You may have a puzzle hanging around or you can buy them at BARNES AND NOBEL, TARGET, WALMART, KMART and BORDERS all of which are open today 🙂

MAKE CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS

Use left over bows, wrapping and stuff from Christmas morning to make Christmas ornaments for the tree. The family can have a blast making fun Christmas decorations that will be treasured for years to come.

GIVE TO THE HOMELESS AND ELDERLY

Christmas is a great time to be grateful for all that we have. So on Christmas day if you and the family are sitting around getting bored, think about going out and serving food or giving to the homeless. Here are some charities that are providing for the poor on Christmas day.

MEALS ON WHEELS gives food to the elderly, call them and sign up to deliver food on Christmas.

PLAY TOGETHER

Bust out the old board games, its time to play. You can play a friendly family game or become a Christmas cutthroat and play for prizes. However you chose to compete, a fun game played with loved ones really makes the day special. Here are some fun board game ideas.

MONOPOLOLY

Nothing says Christmas like a nice game of real estate strategy. While it may be too late to buy it this year, if you don’t already own it, go out and get…

THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS MONOPOLY GAME

Monopoly Nightmare Before Christmas Edition

SCRABBLE

This popular word game is a great way to teach the older kids reading and test your own skills. Not to be redundant, but you can put the Nightmare Before Christmas Scrabble Game on your wish list for next year.

Or use easier versions of the game if you have little ones.

After the kids are in bed there is always POKER, with a little bit of coin tossed in for fun.

Bookshelf Games - Poker Game

Okay so you have opened the presents ate a great meal, played games and the night is winding down, now what?

Well…did you get a gift that was less than loved. Did you get something that tips towards the unwanted pile; never fear you can re-gift or trade that unwanted gift for something you will really enjoy.

UNWANTED GIFT EXCHANGE

Plan an “unwanted” gift exchange, where friends (of course not those who gave you the gift) can come and exchange their unwanted gifts for yours. Make it fun, with snacks and beverages and plan it in the week between Christmas and New Years. Whatever is left over you can donate to a thrift store or local charity.

Use EVITE to invite friends for this fun after Christmas party.

However you chose to celebrate the day, make sure that you enjoy it. Moms are often running the show on Christmas day, but try and do enough planning today to make tomorrow fun and enjoyable, not only for your family, but for you as well. Enjoy, breath, relax, be merry!

Last Minute Christmas Shopping Deals

It is December 22! Have you finished your Christmas shopping? Is Santa sitting by the fire at ye old North Pole sipping on a hot beverage or is (s)he a bit panicked that there isn’t quite enough to fill the sleigh. Moms have busy lives, there’s the weather outside being frightful, the baking of cookies being delightful, the sleighing songs, and the sing-a-longs and presents for x,y and z!!! Frankly 25 days of December isn’t half enough time to get it all done. But rest easy, here are some great ideas for last minute gifts, even if you wanted to wait till tomorrow or really be nutty and wait till Christmas Eve…all will be well, Santa never misses Christmas.

Here are some gift ideas for those last minute, “oops I forgot I was related to you/or that you were coming” gifts.

ONE HOUR PHOTO BOOKS and PRINTS at Walmart (one hour photo processing) or Ritzpics.com (order online and pick up in store or get free 1 day shipping if you order 12/22 or 12/23) . If you have a Walmart Photo Center nearby, this is a life saver, especially if you are shopping for Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Dads. I’m not gonna lie, I just placed my one-hour photo order at Walmart about one minute ago.  The great thing about this service is, they offer one-hour photo books that are reasonably priced at $9.96 for a 4″ x 6″  20 page brag book and $22.96 for an 8″ x 10″  20 page photo book. You can also get collage prints or order large prints and frame them for the perfect gift.

Great deals and tips on using photo cards

The holiday season is supposed to be a time when we focus on faith, family and friends.  However the fact is that there are less than three weeks left to prepare our hearts and homes.  If you are wise you already have a plan, or are in the process of making one of the beautiful and very useful planners that I linked to in my post yesterday.

Some of the items that I must still accomplish this year include; purchasing and wrapping gifts for family and friends, baking cookies and other treats, helping the children make special cards for grandparents, and preparing to host a party.   Like other busy families, we also have two recitals to attend this year, a few extra church activities, and volunteer activities (this year, caroling at some nursing homes).

One thing that I have accomplished is mailing out the greeting cards, thanks to the help of an online greeting card company. What I’ll share with you today will hopefully free up some of your valuable time and money for gift shopping, which will be the main topic of my blog for the next few weeks.

www.tinyprints.com (free 3-day shipping until midnight tonight: CODE TPHOL50)

SAVE TIME AND MONEY BY UTILIZING ONLINE PHOTO CARD SERVICES

Probably the best time and money savers for us over the holidays have been online photo card services.  Save the hassle and money of going to a professional photographer and take a few quick snapshots of your family.  Next go online, download the photos into your favorite card, download your address book, order, and within a few days your cards will be in hands or those of your extended family and friends.

A few of the best deals online right now are at Hallmark.com, where I took advantage of their “mail your cards for free” coupon code (HOLSTAMP) and ordered one hundred Christmas postcards which they shipped to my family and friends for a total cost of less than $90 including tax! Hallmark is also offering free shipping to you (coupon code = HOLSHIP), if you want to take the time to sign and post your cards personally.

Here are some tips that I’ve used over the years to make our cards turn out really nice:

1. Don’t necessarily plan to take photos of your family as a whole.  Many of the postcard and card options available will allow for two or more photos.  This year we took one of our older children and put it on the front of a photo postcard, and we put our new baby’s photo on the back.  Mom and Dad’s photo could go on the back – the window is smaller and therefore won’t show all the wrinkles and gray hair you’ve accumulated in the past year!

2. Dress in solid colors.  If you don’t have coordinating colors, consider editing the photo to make it black & white or sepia.  Some of the most beautiful photos in Christmas cards that we’ve received over the years have been black and white.  If you do prefer to wear busier outfits, then choose a simple card or even better, a photo postcard which you can find at very low prices at business-oriented sites such as vistaprint.com.

3. Don’t take the photo in full sun.  The best lighting is actually on a cloudy day or indoors because you won’t have to compete with shadows.  You can take a picture next to the Christmas tree with the lights on.  We’ve done this in the early evening with great success.  The key is to focus on the people in front of the tree so that the lights in the background blur a bit.

4.  If you’re looking for even more advice, here is a link to site that explains how to take great Christmas pictures.

When your cards are sent out (which shouldn’t take very long if you follow the tips on this page!), stop back here to find great deals on online gifts, in-store gifts, food and more!

Here’s to a happy and holy season of giving!

Sweet deals for your Christmas cookies!

Do you have any favorite holiday memories or traditions? One of my most memorable childhood Christmas traditions (that we still carry on with our children) was decorating sugar cookies with my family.  On Christmas Eve, us children would spend hours designing masterpieces on cookie stars, trees, angels, reindeer, bells, and Santas.  Then the next day Dad would judge the winners (among the ones that weren’t eaten by Santa of course!).  His judging was based not only on the most beautiful, but also the ones that looked the tastiest, so sometimes the messy-looking ones would win out.

In addition to sugar cookies, some easy holiday favorites include microwaveable fudge (great for giving as gifts), reindeer cookies (pretzel antlers and M&M eyes & nose), and of course, gingerbread cookies and houses!  Today I’ve gathered up some great deals for you on ingredients for these treats.  Enjoy!!!

FUDGE

Everyone loves fudge.  If you use a recipe for microwaveable fudge, your work time is less then fifteen minutes!  Once cooled, cut it out with your knife or cookie cutter, wrap in some decorative cellophane, and you have a great gift for babysitters, teachers, neighbors, party guests, and anyone else who happens to stop by.  There are variations, but some of the staples you will need are butter, chocolate, and either evaporates or sweetened condensed milk.  Here are a few coupons guaranteed to decrease your cost per serving, especially if you’re able to double them at your local store:

Nestle Toll House chocolate 50 cents off two

Organic Valley butter $1 off 8 or 16 oz. butter

Carnation evaporated milk 50 cents off two

REINDEER COOKIES

one type of reindeer cookies, click here for the recipe

Reindeer cookies vary, but they all require M&Ms.  Some (like the ones in the picture above) also require a chocolate coating.  Here are some great deals on chocolate and M&Ms  – but they are only available this week (through December 12)!

TARGET

Buy one get one free on 10 oz. Hershey’s candy cane kisses, 10.5 oz. Mars Minis Mix and other bagged candy.

$7.99 40 oz. bags of Hershey’s Holiday Kisses & 42 oz bags M&Ms.

WALGREENS

Wonka Exceptionals(8.5 or 9.5 oz.), 2/$6
(add even more savings by using the following coupon from your Walgreens December ad: $1.00 off of 2 Wonka Chocolate Candy (8.5 or 9.5 oz.)

GINGERBREAD COOKIES AND HOUSES

Gingerbread house (edibleart, flickr.com)

Gingerbread cookies are one of our very favorites.  It is so much fun to make and decorate little gingerbread men and gingerbread women.  Gingerbread is also nice to work with with young children, because there are no raw ingredients (like egg whites) that could be harmful to them if they decide to eat the dough.  If you aren’t familiar with the Gingerbread Baby book, I highly recommend this cute twist on the Gingerbread Man story.  After reading it, your children will be running to the kitchen to make gingerbread!!

If you’ve made a gingerbread house in the past, you know that although the dough itself doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, the decorations can.  If you want to make a gingerbread house this year, consider using leftover candies from other recipes that you make (perhaps the reindeer cookies?).

Need help figuring out how to make a gingerbread house?  Try Gingerbreadhouseheaven.com.  In addition to great recipes, it has free templates, photos, steps to make, and decorating ideas.

If you’re like me and only need the recipe for the glue, check this one out.  It is very tasty and simple and worked great for us this year.

Here are some of my tips for making your gingerbread experience solid, tasty and memorable – the kind of tradition you’d like to continue year after year:

TIPS FOR GINGERBREAD COOKIES AND HOUSES

1. Make the dough ahead.  It’s just easier when you have small children, and gingerbread recipes require the dough to be refrigerated for at least two hours anyway.

2. For easier thawing, shape the dough into rolls and refrigerate in waxed paper.

3. Set the dough out to thaw for at least 15-30 minutes before rolling out.

4. Flour the surface before you or your children roll out the dough.

5.  Place waxed paper down on any surface that will be near frosting.  The frosting used to “glue” together gingerbread houses is more difficult to remove from surfaces than regular frosting.

6. If you have very young children you will want to glue the gingerbread house together before they work with it.  The frosting “glue” will hold tight but it will need an hour to set before it will be strong enough to handle the pressure of little fingers adding decorations.

7. Take lots of pictures.  The kids will want to remember this!

Plan ahead for a relaxing and budget-friendly holiday season

We were blessed to have a relatively commitment-free weekend, and had the opportunity to go sledding and work on a gingerbread house with our children.  Speaking of our children, they have been checking our calendar a lot lately.  At one point, our daughter ran up to us to double-check that she was at the right window in her advent calendar.  I couldn’t help but feel a little nervous when I realized that there are only three weeks left until Christmas!

Hopefully you’ve done a better job at planning than I have, but if not, I wanted to turn you on to several products and ideas that can help to make the rest of this holiday season (and future ones) more enjoyable for you, and help to incorporate memorable family traditions.  Here at ShopforMom, for the next three weeks, you will find tips that will streamline the planning process.  You will also find budget-friendly and timely products and gift ideas.  My goal is for your next three weeks to be relaxing, enjoyable and budget-friendly so that you can create wonderful memories with your family.

START WORKING ON YOUR PLAN

The best way to guarantee success is to start with a great plan. Thankfully, others have done a good amount of the work for us! Free holiday checklists and planners can be found in abundance online. I’ll tell you about a great source for these below, but first I wanted to share with you an inexpensive and useful tool that will help you, in the midst of chaos, to maintain some semblance of normalcy by having nutritious and tasty family dinners each night of this beautifully busy season.

Emealz.com is an excellent resource to use when you’re strapped for both time and cash. This service does all the meal-planning for you. Each week it provides a full week’s worth of family-friendly dinners, including recipes and grocery lists. Subscribers can choose between several different types of weekly menus, including regular, low-carb, low-fat, or gluten-free. Subscribers can also choose meals designed around the selections at a particular store such as Walmart.

Click here to view a page where you can select a sample of their regular menu.

Think of how many times (especially during this busy season) that we busy moms are tempted to settle for more expensive yet less healthy meals, just because they are more convenient. Well, even a trip to McDonald’s is less convenient than cooking dinner when an easy, satisfying, dinner is planned out for you and you have all of the ingredients on hand.  So, consider the great help that e-mealz.com can offer.  At only $1.25 per week, it will save you much more in grocery costs and headaches.

CHRISTMAS AND HOLIDAY PLANNERS

If you have a solid day to put together a custom planner (such as the one above), you may as well do it right. The folks over at ChristmasPlanner really know what to do when it comes to planning. The abundant (and free) forms and checklists available at their site are a compendium of the best of the web, and include everything from Martha Stewart holiday forms and checklists, to artsy and colorful Shabby Chic pages, to super simple black and white printables.

If you don’t have the time to wade through all of the selections above, perhaps you would be interested in copying Ann and putting together your own version of Ann’s Amazing Holiday Planner (instructions are found here)

The materials required include only a three-ring binder (or scrapbook), filler paper/pages, tabs, and markers. In spite of the name (amazing!), it is really quite simple to put together, and should only take an hour or so once you get your materials together.

You’ll thank yourself tremendously if you make a planner that can be reused next year.  Perhaps one into which you can insert gift ideas throughout 2011?

If you’re in need of materials to make an extra-special planner for future use, hop on over to Addictedtoscrapbooking, which in addition to their already low prices, is having a 50% off sale on scrapbook supplies through Tuesday December 7th.

Best wishes to you as you plan out the next few weeks.  Remember to always place your family at the top of your list of priorities!  Stay tuned to ShopforMom this week as we keep the focus on family and friends with deals on photo cards, holiday baking and crafts, and gifts for hubby.

Doing a Family Outing on the Cheap

Family Fun!

* Image Credit: www.elevatedmedianetwork.com

There’s no need to stress about spending $100 or more for a simple family outing. By following the steps below, you’ll be able to treat your kids to a fun activity, and take your family for a nice restaurant meal followed by a few hours of shopping for as little as $14!

  • Search for restaurant deals. Splitting a meal with a spouse is one way to save money at restaurants. But there are better methods of dining on a dime. The first step is to go to www.restaurant.com and purchase a $25 restaurant gift certificate for only $10. By doing so, you’re already saving $15! Currently, you can snag 60% off of the $10 price tag by entering the coupon code “SWEET” at checkout. This will bring your total down to $4! If you don’t think your family can dine out on just $25 worth of food, you can purchase gift certificates in additional denominations.

Here are the prices for higher value www.restaurant.com gift cards.

  1. $100 gift certificate for only $40*
  2. $75 gift certificate for only $30*
  3. $50 gift certificate for only $20*

* Prices before 60% off coupon.

In addition to your gift certificate, choose a restaurant where kids are allowed to eat free in order to stretch your dollars (refer to this post). By doing so, you’ll only have to pay for two adult entrees and any appetizers or drinks that are ordered.

    Scavenger Hunt* Image Credit: www.heckrodtwetland.com

  • Create a scavenger hunt for your kids. A local park is the perfect location to host a scavenger hunt. Simply setup your list of items, set a timeframe and let your kiddies roam the park with an adult in tow in order to collect every item on the list. There’s no doubt that scavenger hunts are fun, but it’s even more fun when the items on the list are things that your kids already know and love, such as candy or their favorite (already owned) action figures.

    Shopping Deals

  • Go Shopping. This week, I’ve got a very awesome scenario for shopping at Old Navy. If you’re a cardholder you can score a BOGO deal. Simply purchase an adult item, and you can score a kids’ item of equal or lesser value for free. So, if your family consists of mom, dad and two kiddos, you can score free clothing for each of your children by simply purchasing an item for mom and dad.

But that’s not all. On Saturday morning (until 10:00am), Old Navy is having a $10 sale on sweaters. So, you can get away with spending $20 on sweaters for mom and dad (one each) and receiving free, quality sweaters for your kids. By doing so, you’ll essentially purchase each sweater for just $5.

  • Play the Barker’s Bone Game on Facebook every week in order to win printable coupons. Every game results in a coupon. However, each game results in a coupon for a different value, such as $5 off of a $20 purchase.

Other Deals

If Old Navy isn’t your cup of tea, you can score a killer 50% off deal at Sears by printing this coupon. The coupon offers $10 off of a $20 order. The coupon is also valid on sale and clearance items, so $20 should go quite far this week at Sears. And the best part about this coupon is that Sears has major clearance deals on their baby and toddler clothing. Shirts are going for as little as $0.99, bodysuits for as little as $1.99, girl’s dresses for as little as $1.99 and sleepwear for just $2.99. With your $20, you can purchase 7 shirts, 2 bodysuits, 2 dresses and 2 sets of sleepwear for a total of $20.94. After your coupon, you’ll only pay $10.94 out of pocket! Purchasing 13 items at this price breaks down to a cost of just $0.84 per item!

If you take advantage of the deal going on at Sears, you’ll only spend $10 for kids’ clothing, $4 (price after coupon) for a gift certificate of $25 to a restaurant of your choice. All in all, you’re only coming out of pocket $14! Alternatively, if you choose to take advantage of the deals at Sears, Old Navy and dine on the $50 gift certificate (priced at only $8 after coupon), you’re still only spending a grand total of $38! As I’ve always said, the deals are out there if you’re willing to scan for them before heading out the door.

This Week’s Deals on Kiddie Clothing

Every time is a perfect time to shop for clothing for your kids. But, wouldn’t scoring a great deal make the process of buying cute teeny-tiny clothing even better? You betcha! In order to give you the green light to shop until you drop without going broke, I’ve created a few deal scenarios for kiddie clothing this week.

Kohl’s

Kohl's Deals

As a mom, Kohl’s is generally my number one stop when searching for deals on my kids’ wardrobe. They have a healthy selection of items in their clearance section. And, at any given time Kohl’s is bound to have a coupon code available, which can also be applied to their clearance section.

This week, the most notable deal on kiddie clothing at Kohl’s is their Majestic Team Mesh Jersey and Shorts sets priced at $16. This price is down from the initial $40 price tag, so by snagging this deal you’re saving $24! Currently, the teams that are available are the New York Yankees, the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates. Not only is this item priced at $16. But, you can also use the coupon code “NEW5615” by October 16th in order to score an extra ten percent off. By applying this coupon code, you’ll be able to snag the set for a mere $14.40. If your girls are old enough to wear a bra, you can score a set of 2 Maiden Form bras for $3.20, or $2.88 when applying the coupon code. The $3.20 price tag has been marked down from $16. So, you’re saving just about $13 by purchasing this set. Now, the hottest deal at Kohl’s is on leggings. You can score white leggings for only $2.40 before your coupon and only $2.16 after your coupon.

Old Navy

Kohl's Logo

While there currently aren’t any substantial coupons available for Old Navy at the moment, the store is having a noteworthy unadvertised sale on a few of its girls’ items. Firstly, we have these printed French Terry Shorts priced at only $3.99. This price is on sale from its initial $6.99 price; a savings of $3. Next, Old Navy’s Girls’ Printed Bermuda Shorts are on sale for $6.99 down from their original $19.99 price tag. Overall, this is a savings of $13! And, the best part is that there are tons of colors/styles to choose from, so the shorts are bound to fit the tastes of a wide variety of budding fashionistas. In addition, you can also snag a Graphic Jersey Tee for just $3.99. This price is down from the initial $7.99 price.

The Limited

The Limited Logo

The Limited is currently offering $10 of free fashion cash which you can use in their store like regular dollars. But, there’s a catch; your fashion cash can only be applied towards regularly priced items – no sale or clearance markdowns. Now, we all know that The Limited is quite expensive and carries very few kid-friendly items.

But, if you head to the accessories section, you’ll be able to find a Bugle Bead headband, marked at $12.5o. After your fashion cash, it’ll only be $2.50 out-of-pocket! Now, that’s a deal, especially when shopping at a pricey store, such as The Limited. There’s no physical coupon to print out, and the offer is only available in-store. In order to claim your fashion cash, simply tell the cashier to apply the $10 in free fashion cash to your order at checkout.

Hopefully, you’ve been able to spot a few deals that’ll work for your family. If you were to purchase every item on this list, you’d only spend only $39.07 and score clothing for both your son and daughter. Personally, I know people that have spent more than $40 on a scarf, so I would say spending a few dollars on these items will go a long way.

Save Money on Diapers and Wipes

baby changing

Keeping your baby’s bottom clean and clear is an expensive responsibility which comes along with caring for a child. Diapers can cost up to $45 per box, and baby wipes can cost up to $16 per purchase! On a monthly basis, these costs can put a large dent in your bank account. So, I’ve created a few tips which I outline below which will help you save a bundle on diapers and wipes.

Sign up for Pampers’ Gifts to Grow Points Program
Pampers' Gifts to Grow

Your baby needs diapers on a daily basis. But, as a mom, you’re at liberty to choose whether you to utilize cloth or disposable diapers. Disposable diapers are certainly easier to use, but this option is quite expensive. Therefore, if you opt for disposable diapers, you might as well purchase them from a brand that rewards its loyal customers. Pampers offers a rewards program called gifts to grow.

As a member of this program, you can win gifts ranging from a $3 off coupon, $10 gift certificate or personalized photo cards up to an all-weather stroller, bike or even a food processor. However, you can certainly use your points in order to offset your cost of diapers by applying your points towards a $10 pampers gift certificate (currently set at 1,000 points) or a $3 off pampers coupon (currently set at 150 points). It’s easy to accumulate 150 or even 1,000 points. And the best part about rolling your points into additional diaper purchases is that you’ll receive even more rewards codes by coming very little out-of-pocket. This program is very reminiscent of the CVS Extra Care Program.

You can collect rewards by inputting codes you find inside your diaper packaging onto your account online. Alternatively, you can use your cell phone to text the code. But personally, I’ve always input the codes online and so have my other mommy friends. Points range from just two or three points up to 50 points per package! But generally, they’ll fall between 5 and 10 points.

Tip: if you subscribe to the Gifts to Grow newsletter, you’ll receive periodic free point codes up to 50-points which you can input into the website without the need to purchase a package of diapers.

Make your own Baby Wipes

DIY Wipes

Combat diaper rash and save your dollars by making your own baby wipes. All you’ll need is a roll of paper towels, a tall storage container (Tupperware works just fine!), 1 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of baby oil and 2 tablespoons of baby shampoo.

Simply mix the water, baby oil and shampoo together; you’ll know it’s ready when the mixture turns a translucent white. Cut the roll of paper towel in half (it should appear to be similar to the size of a roll of toilet paper) and place inside of container. Then, simply drizzle the mixture over the towels and close the lid, give it a nice swirl and let sit for approximately 10-minutes. After 10-minutes, you should be able to easily remove the tube and pull pieces of your baby wipes through the hole.

The cost of baby wipes and diapers can add up over the course of a month. And unfortunately, it’s one of those necessary recurring expenses that can snowball out of control if you shop mindlessly. But, saving money on your baby’s expenses starts with small efforts such as the ones mentioned above.

Over time, these efforts combined with other tips you accumulate will help you make the dollars in your wallet stretch a bit farther. Soon enough, you’ll be slashing your costs in half while still maintaining 100% of the quality. Practice makes perfect, and helping one another edge towards that goal is what the mommy bloggers community is here for.
